For Starters - A 2009 List

Hello people. i love to write about music and talk about music and music music. I'm sure i'll talk about other things here but this'll be a nice forum to discuss the world of sound. Anyways, I thought I'd start things off with a cliche: A list of the best music of 2009. I'll later post a 2000's list... or try to.

Best Debut Record of 2009:
Mayer Hawthorne's A Strange Arrangement due to it being a true debut. Acts like Monsters of Folk and Them Crooked Vultures may have had better records but their members have had their hands dirty in the recording industry for a while.

Biggest Disappointment of 2009:
  • Mat Kearney - City of Black & White
What's that Mat Kearney? You've stopping doing the one thing that makes you unique? and instead you're going to put out generic bullshit that is done poorly?? Well I never!

Best Discovery of 2009 that wasn't released in 2009:
  • Television - Marquee Moon
Blows my mind these guys are products of the Mid to Late 70's. Unreal.

your thoughts?

  1. mmmmm Animal Collective and Andrew Bird, I definitely approve. :)
But I sort of think Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear were hyped up waaay too much this year. Granted, they are both excellent bands....I'm just tired of hearing about them you know? I like seeing some variety.....Mandy Moore.....hellz yeah. pahaha. I really need to get into Gavin Castleton! I've heard nothing but great things about him.

  2. I've listened to all of these records with you (except blakroc) whether in our cars or in your living room, and I think I have to agree with everything on here.

However, again, my quote about Animal Collective stands. Though I do enjoy that song.

The ONLY thing i slightly disagree with is Wilco (the album). I was not thrilled with it. I never kept my attention. I think Drew (The Mug) is way more interesting anyways.

    Matt Kearny blows now

Glad you finally gave my Dad's Television (can you call them TV?) back. So is he.

    Luff

its funny, i think i was guilted to put wilco so high on the list. but i mean, based off of the amount of times i jammed that record i guess justifies its rank
